About Us

South Asia Post
IT is pertinent to ask as to why a new website. In this information age when we are bombarded from all sides with evocative or obtuse information and opinions then why add another name. Friends, after spending years in the field of journalism, somewhere in the inner recesses of the mind,   a thought lingered and always troubled most of us who are involved in launching this web opinion newspaper.

Some Relief: NRI’s Rights to Retrieve Rented Properties
Joginder Singh Toor
W
ITH the advent of First World War, the rent on premises in Punjab, particularly in Lahore started rising and the tenants were under constant threat of eviction or to pay higher rent. The Imperial Game: Indian Foreign Minister Departs
Gobind Thukral
O
N the quick sands of Indian politics nothing seems to be steady. An experienced foreign minister Natwar Singh is now without any portfolio, a la Krishna Menon style in the mid sixties. He lost his job for an unsubstantiated ex party enquiry report written under a game plan and with an avowed political purpose.

Jihadis are Shedding Crocodile Tears
Gurpreet Singh
THE earthquake victims of Pakistan not only got aid from the Canadian government; they have also received a word of sympathy from Al Queda, the international terrorist group.

Second Green Revolution: Transgenic Crops a far Cry in India
Jyotika J. Thukral

Nepal: Politics of the Graveyard
Gobind Thukral

E
VEN for a country that has lived through the horrors of the feudalism for centuries, the current ‘royal’ dictatorship surpasses all brutality. Current King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev came to power in 2001, took direct control and is ruling through pro-monarchist henchmen.

Those who live by guns, die by guns
One Dacoit Killed, another is born
Jyotika J. Thukral
INDIA lives through many stages of civilization. If there is most modern technology along with bullock cart in the same complex, there are also gangs of white collar criminals and thugs masquerading as gentlemen and the old fashioned robin hoods in the ravines and jungles. They all kill and ravish.

The Myth and Mystery of Amrita Pritam
Dr. Jaspal Singh
Amrita Pritam, one of the best known Punjabi writers has just bid adieu to this so called 'mortal world' after having stridden through the bright and not so bright alleys of life for eighty six long years.

Harvest at the Box Office: Poor Aesthetics and putrid stories
Jyotika J. Thukral
S
KIN and romance is passé. As comedy flicks rule Bollywood this year. Whether the script is original or not, sensible or senseless, the movies are running to packed houses.

Interview

Washington based Punjabi politician, Ganga Singh Dhillon for long has been in the thick of controversies. Many in public life and some in the media, wittingly or unwittingly, took him as a protagonist of Khalistan.  Controversy has chased him since 1981 when he addressed a meeting at the Guru Gobind Singh Bhawan in Chandigarh.

YOUR southasiapost.org offers good reading material, particularly for the diaspora in Canada. While there is good analysis of the situation in India  as are  other well written aticles, we need more on Canada and of course on Punjab.
