MIRAGE
By Vinod Anand

Before his arrival
Why should his footsteps
Echo in my mind?
Why should he
Of whom I am unaware
Sit enthroned in my mind?
The whys and wherefores
Of life's paces
Its longings for someone-
Its direction and stay
Remain beyond my ken.
Down ages-in the far horizon
Have I seen the sky descend-
But this mere illusion
Full of beauty and promise, such sight-
But untrue.
Everything I had I lost
I have no senses left.

Yet there I sit on the wayside.
Hoping for more and more
Easy it is be entangled
In attachment's deceiving net-
Happiness and well-being are transient
Webs of illusion, and bondage-
Can we ever escape from
Human bonds, and relationships-
Attachment's rich pageant?
Time should be ours, nature ours,
The rest is mirage
Before his arrival
Why should his footsteps
Echo in my mind?
Why should he of whom I am unaware
Sit enthroned in my mind?
