THIS has reference to professor Manjit singh’ comments in his letter in the 20th edition of the www.southasaipost.org.

Inter-regional and inter-occupational mobility is a universal phenomenon which should be encouraged but without losing sight of its adverse effects on society’s welfare. Even Guru Nanak Dev advocated migration of good people for the betterment of society. I have not undermined the positive contribution of migrants but at the same time remarked that if Punjab is generous in accommodating the migrants why should Punjabis be banned from settling in the neighboring states?

If law and order situation is getting alarming due to involvement of migrants directly or indirectly, should we be silent spectators and do not make the public aware of it and advise the planners to take appropriate precautionary steps? I understand my role to analyze the implications of the process and suggest possible remedial measures. Professor Manjit Singh on the basis of his vast experience in the field seems to conclude ‘just love the migrants’ ignoring socio-economic justification of the event.
