Canada in Search of a New Image
Canadians are apparently concerned about the Post-9/11 World. The big picture is that Canada is engaged in a war against terror that will affect them even as Canadians hope in vain that it will not.  Within this contentious frame, they look and debate issues bedeviling the country's foreign and defense policies. A dedication to Samjhota victims

Saturday, the 24th of February 2007 is a very special day for me. It is my 60th birthday today. It is once-in-a-lifetime coincidence that it occurs on the same day my weekly column is to appear in a leading newspaper. My colleagues in the department of political science at Stockholm organised a very fine reception for me. More

Immigrants in the Land of Honey and Milk

FOR Indians, particularly from the land of Punjab, both east and west, Canada is the land of their dreams. Youngman and young women in many respects would do anything as their guardians to travel seven seas to reach this dreamland. More

A thought about Indian media
SUMAN is a young sensitive Indian whose observations about the mainstream Indian media we received through an e-mail from a friend. How tragic and true is all this about Indian news channels and their breaking story syndrome. Here is what Suman writes: “It is a real shame to INDIAN So called leading news channels! By the time you read this news, the body of Major Manish Pitambare, who was shot dead at Anantnag, would have been cremated with full military honors.” More

S. Mohinder: the Soulful Musician
IT was the year 1956, a soulful melody in the voice of Lata Mangeshkar, “Guzra Hua Zamana Ata Nahin Dobara… Hafiz Khuda Tumhara, virtually everyday on the airwaves of All India Radio, Radio Pakistan and Radio Ceylon. It was a song of the sub continent, soulful and haunting. It was a song from a Madhubala film “Shireen Farhad". Its composer was the memorable S. Mohinder. Born and brought up in Pakistani Punjab, this budding music director Mohinder Singh Sarna or S.Mohinder or as some called him Mohinder Singh Bakhshi  was a young rising star of Hindi films. The lyrics for his music were composed by poet Tanvir Naqvi, an import from Lahore. More

LETTERS
DEAR Editors South Asia Post:
I have read the latest issue of South Asia Post (# 31). I appreciate your efforts very much and like the whole matter of this issue especially the articles named Editorial, Focus and Analysis. I also appreciate a lot the valuable literary article named "Punjab Tragedy revisited by Punjabi Diaspora" written by renowned scholar Dr. Jaspal Singh on my recent novel "Balde Sivian Da Sek". He has not only presented the summary of the text of the Whole novel in an excellent way but also put a great meaning to it by giving so good heading: "Punjab Tragedy revisited by Punjabi Diaspora" itself gives a jest of the novel. Media Meet in Chandigarh:
IT was an evening full of pure joy and reverie for those who had studied here and passed out to achieve new horizons. Some were seen laughing over memories of adorning crisp scribe outfit, sharpening the senses and keeping the 5Ws and 1H 'morally' alive while others were found mulling over the fact as to why were not  they still a part of the University.
