Media
under Fire
WORLD of
journalism is in deep trouble these days or was it always like that.
Whichever way one might look, the tribulations are a plenty. The
powerful were always arraigned against any independent passionate voice,
may be of the individual, group or of the media. There is not much to
worry. But due note ought to be taken when British Prime Minister Tony
Blair forced to vacate his office in view of the bloody Iraq war dares
the world with a dictum that media is “a feral beast, just tearing
people and reputations to bits.” Blair singled out one daring and
fiercely liberal British newspaper, The Independent and let go the
entire Associated Newspapers and Rupert Murdoch's News Corp.

Sikhism in Crisis Proliferation of Cults and Sects in Punjab
Dr. Jaspal Singh
The finances and management of the gurdwaras should not be the monopoly
of one dominant caste of Punjab. Unless there is an equitable distribution of
duties, responsibilities and authority, the disadvantages sections cannot be
brought back to the mainstream. Apart from this, religious piety, compassion and
belief in humanistic values have again to be inculcated. The crisis of Sikhism
is really more serious than its present day custodians visualize. More
Whither
Agricultural Growth Gobind Thukral IT
is a dilemma that beats the present Indian government. The rosy picture
presented after three years of United Progressive Alliance rule by Mrs. Sonia
Gandhi and Dr Manmohan Singh apart, even the best economic minds have little to
offer for farm front. UPA should get credit for good economic growth of over 8.5
per cent annual and a bit more sensible secular rule than its predecessor the
National Democratic government under BJP. But it’s not an all around growth as
agriculture stands neglected with less than two per cent. More
G-8 Summit: Edifice of
Confrontation Dr Swaraj Singh writes from Washington THE
just concluded summit of the G-8 countries in Germany showed that the world is
facing growing divisions and confrontations. Before the start and after the end,
one issue dominated the summit, which was the growing divide between Russia and
America over the issue of installing the American missile interceptor system in
Poland and the Czech Republic. More

One World and the Women Dr. Manju Singh
Globalization is not a linear process, nor a singular end point for
global social change. Nations and people experience new opportunities and a
constraint placed on them by the increasingly rapid shifts in global security
arrangements and globalizes domestic economies differently. Nevertheless, the
way we live in one part of the world can have repercussion in another part of
the world. More

SPECIALISTS IN FLATBED HAULING SERVING WESTERN CANADA
AND U.S.A.
A religious mission or foreign junket? A person who occupies the temporal seat of
the Sikhs and claims to be their spokesperson had to eat a humble pie when plans
to send a delegation of relatives to Canada to locate the kalgi worn by guru
Gobind Singh has to be abandoned in midstream. Bitten by a foreign junket bug,
Jathedar Akal Takht Joginder Singh Vedanti proposed to include his wife
among 12 persons planning to go to Canada for "preliminary preparations and
holding delegation" with Sikh organisations and officials of government of
Canada for bringing holy "Kalgi" (sacred Crest) of Guru Gobind Singh from
Canada.
