Canadian Economy: Strong dollar hits hard Khushwant Toor
THE surprising rise and then a sudden fall of the Canadian Dollar is now
a source of anxiety and economic speculation rather than a source of
pride for the Canadian people. In the mid of last week the Canadian
dollar rose more than $1.10 compared to the U.S. dollar. More

Pakistan: A New Age of Darkness
TO say that Pakistan is at cross roads is
to not to state the obvious. The current political impasse, the power
play by the corrupt rich and the famous, the violence and the religious
and the ethnic divides that plague the country now are not new. The
world has often threatened to pass its final verdict and term it as a
failed state. Vicarious pleasure of its enemies is also not new. Its
sixty years existence of Pakistan is a testimony of these divides,
violence, military coup d’etats and wars with its neighbours. Worst it
has been suffering an ongoing war within itself. Its people, the hapless
poor and the middling classes have been denied their basic right to be a
part of a moderate upwardly mobile state. More

Pakistan-US-India triangle Ishtiaq Ahmed TWO
major events have impacted profoundly on the balance of power in South Asia: the
collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 and the terrorist attacks on the United
States in 2001. The balance of power in South Asia comprised primarily two rival
states, India and Pakistan. India enjoyed the advantages of size -- population,
territory and economy -- but after the nuclear blasts by both of them in May
1998, Pakistan could to a large extent neutralise that advantage by evolving the
notion of a credible nuclear deterrent. More
Musharraf attacks democracy in Pakistan Swaraj Singh Musharraf, the most important
American ally against terrorism, attacked democracy in Pakistan. He showed that
not only he has any respect for the democratic and judicial institutions but he
also exposed the hypocrisy and double standards of the west as far as democracy
and human rights are concerned. Musharraf has only one purpose that is to
somehow cling to the power. The west wants to maintain its domination over the
world at any cost. More

A Requiem for The Lost Glory of The Sikhs-I Dr Jaspal Singh
HERE are a couple of books by a dedicated Sikh scholar Ajmer Singh about
Sikh politics of a century and a half. Vihvin Sadi di Sikh

thus making it a triology though it seems the author originally did not
conceive it as such. The first volume begins with Singh Sabha Lehar in

issues like the problems of Indian nationalism, Gurdwara Reform Movement
and the great Morchas of Guru Ke Bagh and Jaito da Morcha, Independence
of India and its aftermath, betrayal of the Sikh cause by the Sikh
leadership, Punjabi Suba Agitation and its fallout, contribution of

good public image is a prerequisite for an impartial, honest discharge of public
duty for all the wings of the State. The image of a judge has to be par

Race and Prejudice Immigrants suffer as they turn
England Rich Immigrants contribute
more than the natives, yet they suffer indiscriminate racial prejudices.
Even when they are deported, they suffer the worst at the hands of the
British guards who assault and racially abuse. This is an unending sad
story, documented and reported without much affect for the authorities
who daily design new immigration policies and rulers.
