India should stand down troops: Qureshi

Pakistan called on India on Tuesday to deactivate its air bases, return troops to 'peacetime' positions and resume a dialogue suspended after last month's militant attacks in Mumbai.

Tension between the nuclear-armed neighbours has been running high since gunmen killed 179 people in the attacks on India's financial hub. India says the attackers were trained in Pakistan. 'I believe if India deactivates its forward air bases and similarly, relocates its troops to peacetime positions, that will be a positive step,' Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said in a televised address.

Man Utd beat Boro 1-0

Dimitar Berbatov dozed through 69 minutes of Manchester United's home game with Middlesbrough before scoring the only goal to keep the champions in touch with the Premier League leaders. The Bulgarian striker appeared an uninterested observer for much of a freezing night at Old Trafford but when the visiting defence failed to properly clear a Michael Carrick cross he was well placed near the penalty spot to steer it back past Ross Turnbull for the decisive goal.

United remain third in the standings on 38 points but with two games in hand on their three main rivals. Liverpool, who thumped Newcastle United 5-1 away Sunday, lead the way on 45 points, with Chelsea second on 42.
