| How progressive is the
NDP? |
Gurpreet
Singh
THE New Democrats
are often considered as a progressive alternative
to the Liberals and the Conservatives in Canadian
politics. That’s the reason why die hard
leftists with a limited choice in the political
spectrum of British Columbia would vote for the
NDP in the May 12 assembly election. However,
as the election date nears, leftists within the
South Asian community and the mainstream must
look into the range of issues that need to be
seriously addressed by the NDP.More |

curse of child labour and the world of economics |

Vinod Anand
ECONOMIC and social prescriptions are linked
both with micro and macro levels. The micro level
prescriptions include serious consideration of ecological,
feminist, and social concerns. They are linked not
only with markets and efficiency, but also with
the question of human well-being and how economic
and social activities can contribute to, or detract
from, well-being.More |

THE
way America and Europe are dealing with the recession
is very different. Europe has not been affected as badly
as America has been. It is becoming quite clear that
in the long run the concepts of a utilitarian capitalist
system, a social well fare state and capitalism with
human face are superior to the American cut and dry
consumerist capitalism.More |

The first one means ‘concerning the fact’

second means ‘following the decree’ and
is created or developed without or contrary to regulation.More |

That is not silence. To relax ones mind and make
one’s thought process clearer, one has to
do some inward thinking, reflecting on life and
thoughts.More

a major deterrent to female participation is the steady
criminalisation of politics in this country. ''Crime

women into politics than patriarchal attitudes or any
other factor,'' Madhu Kishwar, founder of Manushi Sangathan,
an organisation that works for women's rights, told
