India, China strengthen position on climate change

Heated debates are expected to dominate the UN summit on climate change at Copenhagen with developing nations coming with their own draft to pre-empt developed nations' likely move to insist on binding carbon emission cuts.

"What China and India besides other key developing nations have done is consolidating their position anchored in the UN Framework on Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) ahead of the climate meet," a senior government official said about the recent two-day talks in Beijing.

UAE to back banks amid Dubai meltdown

The United Arab Emirates' central bank said Sunday it would offer additional liquidity to banks, signaling a push by the federal government to reassure investors worried about the country's banking sector and its exposure to Dubai's crushing debt.

Global equity markets were set to reopen Monday, and investors are worried about a routing similar to that seen last week after Dubai's chief engine for growth, Dubai World, announced it wanted more time to pay some of its roughly $60 billion in debts.

Davydenko downs Del Potro for world finals crown

Russia's Nikolay Davydenko won the ATP World Tour Finals title Sunday with a straight sets victory over Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro at London's O2 Arena. Last year's beaten finalist Davydenko won 6-3, 6-4 in an hour and 24 minutes to claim the season-ending title, disputed among the world's top eight players.

The win meant Davydenko jumped up the rankings to finish the season as the world number six, while Del Potro remains at number five.
