India, China strengthen position on climate change
Heated
debates are expected to dominate the UN summit
on climate change at Copenhagen with developing
nations coming with their own draft to pre-empt
developed nations' likely move to insist on binding
carbon emission cuts.
"What China and India besides other key
developing nations have done is consolidating
their position anchored in the UN Framework on
Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) ahead of
the climate meet," a senior government official
said about the recent two-day talks in Beijing.

Kaiga incident serious, inquiry on: Chavan
Taking
the Kaiga power plant incident "very seriously",
government on Sunday said that an inquiry into
the "malevolent act" is already in progress
and answers will be found soon.
"There is some incident of a disgruntled
employee who tried to put some heavy water into
one of the water coolers at Kaiga. People who
drank water from that cooler, were exposed to
some level of contamination. It is being investigated.
It is a malevolent act," Minister of State
for Science and Technology Prithviraj Chavan said
today.

SAD Badal to support Advani as NDA chairman

Akali Dal will be pleased to support senior BJP
leader Lal Krishan Advani to head the National
Democratic Alliance (NDA). This was stated by
Punjab chief minister and patron of SAD Parkash
Singh Badal at a press conference held at Rakhra
near here on Saturday.
Badal said that Akali Dal's relations with the
BJP and NDA were "old and cordial" and
will continue in the future. He said that ‘It
will be immense pleasure for us if MR. Advani
will lead the NDA.’ He added “We are
unbroken part of NDA and will remain with it.”
Badal was commenting on the reports that LK Advani
may head the NDA.

UAE to back banks amid Dubai meltdown
The
United Arab Emirates' central bank said Sunday
it would offer additional liquidity to banks,
signaling a push by the federal government to
reassure investors worried about the country's
banking sector and its exposure to Dubai's crushing
debt.
Global equity markets were set to reopen Monday,
and investors are worried about a routing similar
to that seen last week after Dubai's chief engine
for growth, Dubai World, announced it wanted more
time to pay some of its roughly $60 billion in
debts.

Davydenko downs Del Potro for world finals crown
Russia's
Nikolay Davydenko won the ATP World Tour Finals
title Sunday with a straight sets victory over
Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro at London's
O2 Arena. Last year's beaten finalist Davydenko
won 6-3, 6-4 in an hour and 24 minutes to claim
the season-ending title, disputed among the world's
top eight players.
The win meant Davydenko jumped up the rankings
to finish the season as the world number six,
while Del Potro remains at number five.
