Hafiz Saeed calls for jihad against India

Hafiz Saeed, India's most wanted man who is believed to be behind 26/11, was seen spewing venom against the country once again, publicly. "No doubt," Saeed said in an interview to a Pakistani channel when asked whether people should go to Kashmir for 'jihad' against India.

He also dared India to prove the case against him. The Lashkar founder chief's face was not shown during the interview; Saeed says he is not allowed by the 'Shariah' to show his face.

8.8 magnitude earthquake hits Chile; 300 killed

One of the largest earthquakes on record killed at least 300 people in Chile and sent giant waves roaring across the Pacific Ocean that forced Japan to issue a major tsunami alert almost a day later.

In an address to the nation, President Michelle Bachelet said two million Chileans had been affected but, after touring the worst-hit areas by plane, she found it hard to spell out the magnitude of the disaster that struck on Saturday.

Punjab Deputy CM directs police to deal strictly with dera followers

Following spurt of violence in Punjab by dera Sacha Sauda Followers, the Deptuy Chief Minister Sukhbir SIngh Badal has directed law enforcing agencies in the state to deal firmly with anyone trying to take law into his own hands. He has asked to ensure that no one was allowed to diturb the hard-earned atmosphere of peace and communal harmony in the state.

"Anyone trying to indulge in acts of lawlessness or violence or tryng to play up communal passions will have to face the consequences under the strictest provisipons of the law. "Let there be no confusion in anyone's mind: no one will be allowed to get away with lawless acts. Peace and communal harmony will be maintained at all costs, " said the Deputy Chief Minister.

Finance minister promises revised tax code draft

The government has assured India Inc that it would come out with a revised direct taxes code (DTC) draft and seek their comments before finalising it. "We will prepare a revised draft (of DTC) and that will be placed in the public domain for getting comments ... but that will be for a shorter period," Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said while addressing the concerns of India Inc at a joint post-Budget meeting organised by industry chambers Ficci, CII and Assocham here on Saturday.

The government, he further said, will consider suggestion of the industry to raise savings limit for personal income tax payers next year.Currently, individuals can seek tax exemption on savings up to Rs 1 lakh in a year, in addition to Rs 20,000 in infrastructure bonds.

Hockey World Cup: India humiliate Pakistan 4-1

Ace drag-flicker Sandeep Singh rose to the occasion and converted two penalty corners as hosts India outplayed Pakistan in a thrilling Pool B match of the Hero Honda FIH World Cup at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium.

With this victory India had avenged their 3-6 Champions Challenge defeat at the hands of the sub-continental rivals in Salta, Argentina last December. The victory not only gave India a 3-2 head-to-head record against Pakistan in the quadrennial event but also one lakh purse each to the players and support staff of the team.
