Pak-linked terror plot foiled; 3 held in Maharashtra, Gujarat

A suspected Pakistan-linked terror plot has been foiled with police arresting two Mumbai residents, who were planning to attack three targets including ONGC headquarters, and a third man in Gujarat capital after busting a terror module.

The arrest of three men Saturday night by the Anti-Terrorism Squads (ATS) of Maharashtra and Gujarat, who claimed the plot had Pakistan links, along with a top militant in Manipur was described by Home Secretary G K Pillai as a "major success".

Bareilly peaceful before BSP's Lucknow rally

Sunday brought some hope to the people of Bareilly, shut down since 14 days due to curfew. More than 100 people, mainly artists and intellectuals chosen by the administration, walked on the streets.

The news of relaxation in the curfew is a big relief for Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), just a day before their maha rally in Lucknow. Picked up by the government, people marched for peace, desperately wanting an end to the curfew.

Punjab cabinet approves budget proposals for 2010-11

The Council of Ministers today approved the presentation of State Budget for the year 2010-11 during the 9th Session of 13th Vidhan Sabha on March 16, 2010. A decision to this effect was taken here at a meeting of the Cabinet chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal this evening, as the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has been advised rest for some time more.

Disclosing this here a spokesman of the Punjab Government said that the Cabinet also gave approval to lay the reports of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India relating to Civil, Commercial and Revenue Receipts of Punjab Government for the year 2008-09, besides Finance Accounts and Appropriation Accounts of Punjab Government for the year 2008-09 on the table of Punjab Vidhan Sabha.

China oil firm takes $3.1B stake in SAmerican firm

Leading offshore producer China National Offshore Oil Corp. said Sunday it has agreed to pay $3.1 billion to form a joint-venture with a major Argentine energy firm, helping to expand China's access to natural resources in South America.

The investment will give CNOOC a 50 percent stake in Bridas Corp., which is currently controlled by Bridas Energy Holdings Ltd., the Chinese firm said in a statement to the Hong Kong stock exchange.

Alonso wins Bahrain season-opener on Ferrari debut

Fernando Alonso won the season-opening Bahrain Formula One Grand Prix and led a Ferrari one-two in a dream debut with the Italian glamour team on Sunday.

In a race led for more than two thirds of the distance by Germany's Sebastian Vettel before the Red Bull slowed and was reeled in, the Spaniard laid down a marker for the season with his 22nd career victory.
