This is the most ‘right-wing’ campaign ever - Dr P R Kalia

IT’s ELECTION TIME; Voters are asking that why Income Inequality and Poverty are not debatable? And while inequality is threatening the stability of the economic system, why all the three main political parties are pitching themselves as ‘Moderate’ & ‘Fiscally Responsible’? The tragedy has been that those who claim to be on the Left are often found on the Right. Now a striking unanimity among Conservatives, Liberals and New Democrats has been that without setting a direction for the nation, their platforms look similar. The only discord amongst them has been on rewarding goodies of tax cuts, spendings and benefits. So, devoid of any ideology, the present political stock is […]

Killings of Rationalists and Scholars shocks India? - Dr P R Kalia

The killing’s of radical scholars calls for a national debate. Dr. Narendra Dabholkar, the anti-superstition activist; Govind Pansare, the CPI trailblazer; and Prof. M. M. Kulburgi, winner of the Sahitya Akademi Award, have been victims of cold-blooded murder. Their only crime: they were rationalists who questioned the conventional tyrannies of faith. How can a civilisation be trusted that sends Socrates, Galileo and Rosa Luxemburg to death? On August 31, 2015, scholar and academic, Prof. M. M. Kalburgi was assassinated in what appears to be retaliation against his outspoken views of Hinduism and his denouncing of superstition. The 76-year-old Mr. Kalburgi was a prominent author who was awarded the National Sahitya […]

Hindu lynch mob kills Muslim over alleged beef - Dr P R Kalia

Are we becoming like the ISIS-ruled lands where life and death are decided more or less by what you eat, what you wear, what your sexual proclivities are? Bisara (Uttar Pradesh), Sept 29: A Muslim man was dragged out of his home and lynched to death by a Hindu mob in UP’s village Bisara, about 45 kilometers from New Delhi, after a rapidly-spreading rumour that he and his family killed and ate a cow. The propaganda took shape on Monday night in the form of WhatsApp messages and a gathering at a local temple where a priest allegedly announced the man guilty of eating beef. An hour later, a mob […]

Refugee Crisis pushes Europe to Chaos - Sawraj Singh

Crisis of the western capitalism is Deepening and has reached its birthplace and heartland, “Europe”. The scenes of helter skelter, chaos and anarchy show an ugly face of Europe. Highways and railways blocked to stop their flow. This crisis has exposed the real face of western capitalism .This is not just a refugee crisis, it may be the beginning of the terminal crisis of western capitalism which can end the two centuries of western domination and the […]

Consumerism Incites Anti-Intellectualism - Sawraj Singh

The word ujadd in the Punjabi language generally means uncultivated, uncivilized, or rustic. However, today, Punjabis have evolved a new philosophy called “Ujaddwad.” This philosophy opposes the established values, manners and conduct. It also opposes the healthy elements in our culture. The essence of this phenomenon is to look down upon intellectuals and intellectualism. Therefore, it can be called anti-intellectualism. Anybody who does not subscribe to the consumerist philosophy that the real purpose of life is to make maximum money in minimum time and enjoy your money completely (live it up), is frowned upon and his knowledge is considered only bookish and is not practical.  He could be the victim […]

Sectarian politics raises its ugly head again - Gobind Thukral

Ever since September 24 when in a surprise move the five Sikh Jathedars pardoned Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in the 2007 blasphemy case, the Sikh clergy is  under fire. An array of Sikh organisations, particularly radicals are leading a vociferous campaign, seeking the resignation of these priests and withdrawal of the edict. What intelligence agencies fear is that these elements, taking hard line on Sikh religious affairs may disrupt peace in Punjab.   Despite increased security by the police and the SGPC, one high priest was physically assaulted. Giani Mal Singh, the head priest of Takht Keshgarh Sahib escaped a bid on his life on October […]

Punjab Congress heading towards a split - Gobind Thukral

Congress leaders in Punjab seem to be determined to commit a hari-kari. During the past two years or more, their internecine quarrels, often pushed by greedy central leaders are entering the worst phase. Daily no hold barred accusations by state Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa and the tallest of the Punjab leaders, Capt. Amarinder Singh   who is now the deputy leader of the party in the Lok Sabha. Ever since he was denied   what he considered his due, this former chief minister has been one up over Bajwa. Haryana schools adopt the Hindutva agenda - Gobind Thukral

Very soon over 3,500 secondary government schools in Haryana will begin compulsory teaching of not only Sanskrit, the Gita and Vedic mantras   , but obscurantist philosophy of the RSS ideologue D N Batra. Convener of RSS-backed Shiksha Bachao Andolan Samiti this ‘ultra-nationalist saffron stalwart’ has succeeded in introducing not only the shalokas from the Gita  but some  myths too in the school curriculum . Haryana: Rise and fall of a belligerent officer - Gobind Thukral

Is it a full circle for Haryana cadre IAS officer Ashok Khemka? Four years back, he hogged the headlines with what was called a spirited move to expose the alleged illegal land deals of Robert Vadra, son–in –law the Congress President, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi. A major real estate company, the DLF was said to be involved in this multi crore transaction. He did what people thought was extra ordinary for a civil servant. This was exploited to the hilt by the opposition, particularly by the BJP that captured power last year, both at the center and in Haryana. He should have been the darling as many new ministers would not […]
